A little extra every day makes a BIG difference.
Enrolling your child in Kumon will mean concrete learning steps every day. Kumon learning is practical and relies on paper, pencil, eraser and daily practice. Most parents would be familiar with this focus on content rather than on the tools of computers, calculators or theories.
Two afternoons a week, at the local Kumon study center, your son or daughter will be introduced to new learning areas, their homework checked and challenging areas discussed to consolidate progress and maintain confidence.
Fitting the shoe to the foot - a new approach to learning
Kumon recognizes that not all children learn at the same pace. The learning method reflects this to ensure that each child receives a level of worksheet that is matched to their individual ability. In this way, each child develops confidence, learning skills and subject knowledge at a rate that is 'just right' for them.

Get children "hooked" on learning
Mr. Toru Kumon, the late founder, aimed to get children "hooked" on learning. He often explained that as a child became increasingly aware of their ability to learn Math or languages they would almost certainly expand that learning as time went on.

So that school life is easier and more enjoyable
Smooth progress to materials ahead of their school curriculum is not only common at Kumon but students' skills are such that they are able to continue to learn quite independently from that point at their 'just right' pace. School work becomes easier, homework more manageable and school life is less stressful.
Toru Kumon often recalled his own schooling and said, "I didn't want to be a great Math student, but I did want to get far enough ahead that I could take it easy." His philosophy then developed around the idea of getting ahead so that school was a more enjoyable and successful experience. "Searching for the real potential of children is the aim of good education." - Toru Kumon

Practice leads to mastery. Mastery leads to confidence.
Kumon students learn faster and smoother than is normally expected. By focusing on each child as an individual learner, Kumon can ensure that mastery of each concept is achieved. Appropriate practice delivers mastery and that mastery leads to self confidence. Children learn better when they are confident. This means that students feel less anxiety towards their school tests too!

Beyond basic academic ability
As the learning skills and knowledge of students grow, so does the character of the child. Their self confidence supports their persistence in the face of new learning areas and most children will move on to materials ahead of their school materials. The key difference is that they can comfortably move forward from that point. Their learning skills have opened up the world around them.

Supplementing school based learning
Kumon is designed to supplement school. It is not meant as a substitute for school-based learning. In fact, a key advantage for Kumon students, working over time at their 'just right' level, is their tendency to feel far less 'test anxiety' as a result of their increased confidence and self awareness.
