Current Time and Date:

Welcome to KUMON
How regularly must my child work? Each day is preferably, as students learn more effectively through doing a small amount of work each day. (With a parents request, children may work 5 to 6 days rather than a 7 days a week). Children attend the Kumon Center twice per week. Kumon of Loggers Run Center is open from2:00pm to 7:00pm every Monday and Thursday afternoon.
What is my involvement as a parent? Parents are asked to supervise their child's work, and to see that it is completed in order. Parents are also asked to correct their child's work each day and to ensure that any mistakes are rectified. (Answer books are supplied.)  This is referred to Home grading.
How long will it take my child to do the required number of worksheets each day? We would like students to work for about 10-15 minutes each day. Small children are asked to do less however, and we encourage older children to do more.
When my child reaches new work, how will he/she know how to do it? There are examples given when starting to learn every new concept. Kumon progresses in small degrees so there is never a big hurdle to jump. Please ask your Instructor for hints if required.
When will I see the result of Kumon study in my child's school work? Of course it depends on the child, but usually after three months children are seeing some improvement. At the 6 - 12 month point, children are usually reaching their class level and find that they have improved dramatically. Upon reaching advance status, students start to show improvement in other subjects.

KUMON CAN HELP!

KUMON'S FORMULA FOR SUCCESS IS AS SIMPLE AS 1-2-3

1. FREE Diagnostic Test
Kumon will test your child free of charge and obligation before enrollment to determine the most appropriate starting point within the Kumon system. This "comfortable" starting point is an important feature of the Kumon Method because immediately, your child will be able to solve a large number of  problems quickly and easily...which means he or she will gain self-confidence and the desire to advance from the very start.

2. Specialized Materials
The Kumon system emphasizes self-learning with a unique set of materials which your child completes on his or her own, supervised by a trained Kumon instructor. Math concepts within the system are sequentially organized, so they're easy to follow as they gradually increase in difficulty. The materials are designed to provide your child with the necessary practice of math skills, which promotes both speed and accuracy while building a true mastery of mathematical concepts.

3. Advancement at a Comfortable Pace
Kumon believes that children should advance in mathematics at their own pace and according to individual ability rather than age. With the Kumon Method, students practice and rework incorrect problems as many times as needed until a score of 100% is achieved. Mr. Toru Kumon, founder, explains the philosophy behind the methodology: "The joy of receiving 100% not only ensures subject knowledge but also gives the child the confidence and motivation to continue to the next study level."

Classroom Procedure

At the Kumon Center
All Kumon centers are run by trained Kumon Instructors.  Kumon of Loggers Run center opens two afternoons a week from 2:00pm until7:00pm, Monday and Thursday, and student sstay in the center at a designated time for approximately 25 minutes. While they are at the center, they do the following:

  1. HELLO! Students come in, get their files and submit their homework.

  2. 5-10 sheets per day. Instructor decides the type and amount of work suitable for each student. Students do 5-10 work sheetsper day appropriate to their skills and abilities. While their work is being graded, students do some supplementary activities.

  3. 100% always. Because students work on the materials that match their abilities, they are able to score 100% or very close to it. 100% gives them confidence.

  4. Corrections. Should there be any mistakes, students must correct them on their own until a score of 100% is achieved. Students learn from their mistakes.

  5. Goodbye. When the work is successfully completed, students receive praises and rewards from their Instructors. They pick up their homework and say goodbye.

At home:
Students do a little of Kumon work every day. Onnon-center days, they do a set of work at home each day. It is important to get into a good daily routine so that studying becomes a part of the day. Completed homework need not be checked by the parents. Parents give their children praises and compliments essential in developing their self-confidence.

Tuition includes:
ONE or TWO twenty to thirty minute classroom sessions per week.
All instruction materials.

Junior Kumon: Special Head-start Program for young children

(ages 3 andup) Preschool - Kindergarten Program
Kumon of North America has developed anew quick paced, lively and fun version of Kumon Math and Reading. Junior Kumon is designed to equip these youngsters for primary school and for the full Kumon program.

Students enrolling in Junior Kumon are typically enrolled in both math and reading as the program is designed for both subjects to work in tandem. Students successfully work at a quick pace to accomplish the routine of Junior Kumon in both subjects in only 30 minutes during their center visit. Daily time at home should be no longer than 20 minutes for both subjects combined.
